FEB 3, 2009 -- Kylia says its coherent receiver provides many advantages in a Polarization Division Multiplexed Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying (PDM-QPSK) application. Kylia representatives say that PDM-QPSK is the most promising technology to enable the migration to higher data rates like 100 Gbits/sec. Its high tolerance to linear fiber effects makes PDM-QPSK a perfect candidate for the new modulation format, they claim. At the receiver end, a coherent receiver is needed for reading PDM-QPSK. The Kylia coherent receiver--dubbed "Mint-2x8"--is a dual-polarisation coherent mixer. Mint-2x8 mixes a signal with a local oscillator and exhibits four output ports per polarization. Each port is offset from the previous one by 90
