[advertise]广告[/advertise]Paris, October 9, 2009 - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE: ALU) today announced that China Telecom, through its subsidiary Shanghai Telecom, successfully tested and validated Alcatel-Lucent’s multicarrier EV-DO solution, based on the Rev. B standard. Alcatel-Lucent’s world-leading solution, which is now installed, will enable Shanghai Telecom to boost its network speed by up to three times and offer increasingly sophisticated 3G services. The contract was signed through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent’s Chinese flagship company.
Alcatel-Lucent is the sole equipment provider for China’s first multicarrier EV-DO demo launched in Shanghai Telecom’s InfoSpace demonstration center. The demo showcases a 3G network environment with a download rate up to 9.3 Mbps and lower latencies on the application layer, which will greatly improve end-users’ experience when subscribing to bandwidth-consuming mobile services such as VoIP, video telephony and multimedia.
Leveraging CDMA’s upgrade advantages, Shanghai Telecom launched China’s first CDMA EV-DO commercial network in March and completed CDMA coverage of Shanghai’s rural and urban areas three months later. Alcatel-Lucent has provided all of Shanghai Telecom’s CDMA networks, except for Chongming island in Shanghai.
Furthermore, Alcatel-Lucent is going to launch a field trial of multicarrier EV-DO with China Telecom in Q4 this year, to help the carrier provide high-quality 3G services during the World Expo.
As a leading provider of CDMA networks, Alcatel-Lucent is fully engaged in CDMA’s technology evolution and commercial deployment. In July ‘09, Alcatel-Lucent participated in China Telecom’s Multicarrier EV-DO Lab Test conducted at the Guangdong Telecom Research Institute, and successfully passed all the test items. At the beginning of the year, Alcatel-Lucent also joined a lab test held in North America, demonstrating that Alcatel-Lucent’s CDMA Rev. A system can be easily upgraded to Multicarrier EV-DO – by means of a simple software upgrade.
“Alcatel-Lucent is committed to helping Shanghai Telecom enhance the user experience of its 3G subscribers. Through a cost-effective CDMA software upgrade, Alcatel-Lucent enables our customers to supply state-of-the-art mobile broadband services,” said Olivia Qiu, President of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell and of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in East Asia.
Alcatel-Lucent is the global leader in CDMA with a 42% market share. Alcatel-Lucent is working with operators – such as Verizon Wireless - as they evolve their networks from CDMA/EV-DO to incorporate LTE technology, ensuring the smooth interoperability of their 3G and 4G network infrastructures.
