[advertise]广告[/advertise]THE winner of China’s biggest jackpot of 360 million yuan (US$53 million) has donated 10 million yuan to charity — a donation record by a lottery winner — Henan’s lottery center said at a press conference yesterday. The winner, identified only as An, made the donation when he claimed the gigantic prize in Anyang on Tuesday, the center said. He received a total of 287.98 million yuan after paying income tax of 69.99 million yuan. About 600,000 yuan of the donation will pay for medical treatment for a 9-year-old girl with uremia, Yan Mengmeng, in Fugou County, Zhoukou City in Henan. The center said An was a local businessman who had been buying lottery tickets for more than three years. It refused to disclose more details because “An preferred his personal information not to be made public.” It was reported that the center would try to persuade the winner to accept interviews, but that seemed unlikely, according to sina.com. The nondisclosure of the winner’s identity aroused suspicion about the credibility of the country’s lottery industry. Rumors had pointed to different versions of the winner’s identity, including a truck driver, a security guard, a steel products store owner and a pool of four people. An paid 176 yuan to buy two “Dual-colored Ball” tickets with the same number Oct. 8. This enabled him to win the top prize of 4.09 million yuan 88 times, or 360 million yuan in total. The previous record jackpot of 113.8 million yuan was won by a buyer in Jiayuguan City in Gansu Province on Nov. 27, 2007. Source:Shenzhen Daily
