Mr. Xiaobing Chang, Chairman of China Unicom, today said in Hongkong that iPhone services would increase their Q4 revenue. He aslo hoped that they could attract at least 1 million 3G customers each month. Last month, Unicom has developed nearly 1 million 3G customers. Chang told journalists that he believed 3G would develope smoothly in mainland China, and Chinese needed some time to accept this new technology. A 8G version of Unicom's iPhone is sold 5999 RMB now which include 2 years bill charge. Many customers critisize this price is too high. But from Mr. Yimin Lu, President of Unicom, he pointed out that in other countries, iPhone is sold often more than 5000 RMB. Unicom's price is not high compared to those. Substracting that 2 years bill charge, a Unicom iPhone only costs purchaser less than 2500 RMB. There is another hurdle for Unicom to promote their iPhone service, which is they have to compete with those smuggled iphones in market. A special advantage of these sumuggles iPhones are they keep the WiFi function. For some unkonwn reason, China Unicom cancled this WiFi function in their formal iPhone products.
