11/9/2009, It is already early of November, three mainland Chinese carriers still did not publish their next year investment plan. It is a very rare thing.
According to Mr. Xu,zhiqun, Senior VP of Shanghai Bell, the flagship company of Alcatel-Lucent in China, Chinese carriers will be more prudent on scaling network capacity in the coming 3 years, and this will bring big influence on equipment manufactures. In the 1st half of this year, all there big service providers did not have a good score. Unicom's profit reduced 40%, China Telecom reduced their profit by 50%, and China Mobile only had 1.4% increase on profit.
From the data of MII, Chinese carriers have invested 96.1billion RMB on 3G network building. At the same time, 3G services don't bring ideal new subscribers to service providers. Take China Telecom as an example, its 3G network support 200 million subscribers, but now they have far less subsribers than that.
For Shanghai Bell, Xu pointed out they would focus more on enterprise communication market in the future. From 2010 to 2012, this market will have 200billion RMB scale.
Although mainland Chinese telecom market shows some uncertainty in the future years. In Taiwan, service providers there have more optimism. China Telecom of Taiwan just planned to invest 12.8billion NTB (2.5billion RMB) on FTTx network in year 2010. China Telecom also sets up 2.5million FTTx subscribers in the next year. One important thing should be mentioned is that China Telecom Taiwan will purchase GPON equipments for the first time next year.
