[advertise]广告[/advertise]November 18, 2009 Xiaowei Zhang,general manager of Taiwan Mobile met with chairman of China Unicom,Xiaobing Chang in Hong Kong yesterday. It is reported that the two leaders discussed the idea of building a new submarine cable that links Tamsui Taiwan directly to Fujian province in Mainland China. The deployment of this submarin cable needs 250million RMB.
Taiwan Mobile expects this new direct submarine cable will work as the springboard for Fubon Group, owner of Taiwan mobile, to play a bigger role in West Coast Economic Special Zone. Fubang group is activly entering the financial and telecom industry in mainland China.
After cross-strait MOU has been signed between Taiwan and Mainland China, Taiwan Mobile hoped to grasp this huge broadband opportunities among enterprises in the 2 sides of Taiwan Strait. In the future, Taiwan Mobile and China Unicom may aslo build two other new direct submarin cables. One is from Shanghai to the north of Taiwan (Tamsui), and another is Hong Kong to southern Taiwan (Fangshan).
Before this Tamsui-Fujian submarin cable, China Unicom has cooperated with Chinese Telecom in Taiwan on several submarin cable projects, like APCN, APCN2, AG etc. China Telecom also planed to cooperate with Chinese Telecom in Taiwan on building XIamen-Taiwan submarin cable.
