[advertise]广告[/advertise]11/30/2009, In mainland China’s fixed line market, China Telecom and China Unicom (former China Netcom)each dominates half China’s market. Competing broadband service providers like Greatwall broadband or Railcom only challenge in a very limited scale. After last year’s reshuffle, what kind of change happened in this market? There are two interesting news these days. The first news is that an high ranked officer of SARFT(State administration radio film and television) said in a forum that China’s broadband market needs more competition, and this market needs a more reasonable policy that can promote development of broadband. Mr.Wang Lian, leader of science agency SARFT presented in annual IT fortune conference in Beijing that if the US has the problem of insufficient competition of broadband market, then there will be a bigger problem of this in China. According to him, China’s broadcasting service providers has finished the digitalization in more than 100 cities, has more than 60 million customers, about 24 million two-way network. This network can surely play a more important role in China. Another news is about Chongqing Mobile, a branch of China Mobile in southwest China. Chongqing mobile has just introduced a new fixed line broadband service which only charges customer 448RMB a year for 2M bandwidth. This price is nearly only half of the price that Chongqing Telecom provides for the same service. Not only this, Chongqing mobile also announced if a customer would like to pay 900RMB for their cellphone bill in advance, they can provide free 2M fixed line service for a year. According to Chongqing Mobile, this new service will be useful to realize full competition in broadband market. In today’s telecommunication market, Both China Telecom and China Unicom focus on 3G development. But their competitors began to aim at their backyard, it is interesting to see the rising competition in the fixed line broadband market.
