A TOTAL of 181 of the world’s top 500 enterprises had invested in Shenzhen by the end of September last year, official figures show.
The information was released at a ceremony honoring “double excellence”-rated foreign-invested companies at Wuzhou Guest House on Friday.
“Double excellence” refers to enterprises that have earned US$2 million or more in one year and recorded 2 million yuan (US$292,900) or more in pre-tax profits in the same period.
Shenzhen Changcheng Development Technology Co. Ltd., DuPont China Holding Co. Ltd. and Lenovo Information Products (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. were among 227 foreign-invested enterprises to be conferred the honor of “double excellence.”
Ten foreign-invested companies were honored for their high turnovers and another 10 for the amount of tax they paid last year at Friday’s ceremony, which also marked the 20th anniversary of the Shenzhen Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment (SZAEFI).
A nongovernmental and nonprofit business organization set up in 1989, the SZAEFI now has 2,400 member enterprises. Foreign exchange earned through exports by SZAEFI members now accounts for more than 75 percent of the total recorded for the manufacturing industry in Shenzhen, according to the official Web site of the SZAEFI. The industrial output value of the member enterprises accounts for some 50 percent of the city’s total. (Eunice Kang)
