[advertise]广告[/advertise]1/6/2010, On January 7 of 2009, MITT(Ministry of Industry Information)officially gave 3G licensees to China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. Now one year passed, what is the result? According to MITT, 3 service providers totally invested 160.9 billion RMB in their 3G network, build 325K 3G base station, developed more than 15 million 3G subscribers, brought more than 670K new jobs. Up to now, 3G network has covered major cities and eastern part in mainland China. Take China Mobile as an example, on December 31 2009, they announced that they had finished 3rd phase project of their TD network, covered 70% of major cities, including 238 big cities. On same day, China Unicom announced they would launch 3G services in 50 new cities. Unicom's WCDMA network covers 335 major cities around China. This 3G network also is called the largest WCDMA 3G network around the world. China Telecom is even faster, in last October, they have announced that their CDMA2000 3G networks covered 342 major cities, 2055 smaller cities. Among the total 15million 3G subscribers (another data is 11 million), China Mobile holds the biggest share with 5 million customers. This achievement exceeds the 10 million target set by MIIT. But there are still problems. The biggest problem, the expected mobile data traffic didn’t appear, and there is still no killer application for 3G subscribers. The reason behind this is still the high cost for 3G data service and shortage of terminals. It is predicted the last problem will be solved this year, but about the 3G charge, that depends on 3 carriers. Maybe 2010 is the key year to decide if China’s 3G launch is a success.
