The results came from a survey launched by the TV program, four websites and wireless media on "What are your livelihood hopes?" More than 10 million audience and netizens participated in the survey. The Chinese government has expressed a strong determination to improve people's livelihood. China will give "high priority" to developing education, Premier Wen Jiabao said on March 5 when delivering this year's government work report. A country can not become strong or prosperous if it does not make education universal and improve its quality, Wen said. "Everything we do we do to ensure that people live a happier life with more dignity and make our society fairer and more harmonious," Wen promised. Wen also vowed to enhance the rational income distribution system as it is an "important manifestation of social fairness and justice" and a major way out for boosting domestic demand and narrowing the income gap. The government will resolutely curb the precipitous rise of housing prices in some cities, satisfy people's basic need for housing and provide better healthcare services, according to the government work report.
