6/22/2010, Hengtong Group (600487,Shanghai Stock market) today  announced their optical fiber preform rod project has passed the certification and will soon be put into mass production.

Hengtong's perform rod project began from December 2006 when the company secured 298 million RMB for this project. After 3 and a half years hard work, Hengtong finally passed the certification of a committee composed of 9 experts in optical communication industry.

According to Mr. Lv,jinliang, project leader in Hengtong for preform rod, they are satisfied with the first batch of product. Now they have about 200 tones capability on manufacturing, but they still need another 300 tones to satisfy their own request.

There are about 200 fiber and cable companies in mainland China. Most of them depend on imported preform rod to make fiber. Preform rod is always considered the most important technology for the whole fiber and cable industry. Several years ago, Futong group in Zhejiang province once announced to master this technology through cooperation with a Japanese company, but there is no further report later.
