BERLIN, Germany, August 13, 2010 VI Systems GmbH, a leader in ultra-high speed optical components for data communications, introduces the first circular chip arrays of its Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) with 7 channels for data rates of up to 5 Gbit/s per channel. The operating wavelength of the VCSEL is specified with 850nm. The chip arrays are available in  a ringlike 6 + 1 channel configuration with one emitter in center.

The chip arrays are designed for wire-bonding as well as for flip-chip bonding. The VCSEL arrays can be contacted directly from the top and feature a high-speed pad layout.

Target applications are short reach and very short reach optical receivers and transceiver modules used in optical communication networks as well in chip-to-chip optical interconnects in the computer industry. Future serial standards at data rates at 28 Gbit/s are currently developed within Common Electrical Standard (CEI-25/28 Gbit/s), Fiber Channel 32 Gbit/s  and Ethernet IEEE 40/100 Gbit/s as well as in a number of custom specific application.
