August 23,2010, Huawei gained FTTx equipment order in Italy, Verizon began to sell ZTE cell pone. Nearly every week, you can read many good news of Huawei and ZTE, China's 2 telecom giants. But in their backyard, there are more and more negative news.

 

"Gaddafi is very angry, the result will be very serious", this is the title of a post on Netease's BBS. Because of the problem on Huawei's equipment upgrade, even Gaddafi， Libya's famous president, can't make a call. And it is not the first time that Huawei had this problem in Africa.

 

Another post on Netease disclosed that Huawei studied from Taiwan's OEM giant Foxconn, where just happened famous 13 employees suicide case, to ask employee to sign a "Hard worker's memorandum" in which the employee has to promise giving up annual leave, parent leave, martial leave. On Tianya's BBS, there is a similar content post which described that Huawei not only limits overseas employee's airline tickets purchasing, also demands employees to sign a contract with Huawei to reduce their bonus each year. Both posts can't be proved to be true or false now, but the posts really triggered many angers towards Huawei. A replying post wrote:” We have sacrificed so much for Huawei, now you care about our only left parent leave and martial leave, Mr. Ren (Huawei's CEO), are you confused?"

 

A fabricated story on C114 wrote:" Verizon contacts Alcatel-Lucent for price, but thought it too expensive. Then Huawei gave a much cheaper price, Verizon can't believe her eyes. Compared to Huawei, ZTE attracted more criticism. A widely posted poster originated from Tianya used the tone of ZTE's former employee to criticize the company create many shell companies to deal with government. ZTE later has to make an announcement to deny that. But on BBS, many netizens just criticized ZTE too much inside struggle. It is the very bad treatment to employees of ZTE that caused such result.

 

Posters also criticized ZTE's quick compromise to Indian government. A post said that ZTE is not decent on handling this situation. They don't know how to join hands with Huawei on this; they are only good at inside struggling. Huawei was also criticized on this problem.

 

There is a famous Hongkong film named "Infernal Affairs" which describes the undercover agents in both police and gangsters. Netizens use this film to describes today's Huawei and ZTE. According to them, there are many engineers who are undercover for another company in both ZTE and Huawei. This maybe not true, but it is true that there is really some examples that people poached by another company rebuked his/her former company in both ZTE and Huawei.
