September 29,2010, We maybe the first telecom media to report Broadway. Last year's CIOE, the Suzhou transceiver start up demonstrated there new system level transceiver to the industry for the first time. This year's CIOE, we tried to look for them again but suddenly, we heard that they were purchased by the transceiver giant, Finisar company.

We tried to contact Broadway at the first time when we read the news announcement, but the company told us they had no more detail to tell us about the deal.

We then want to collect the feedback of local companies on this deal. A transceiver company told us they do not want to comment on this. A senior engineer in a system company gave us some good feedback. According to him, the two transceivers of Broadway integrate many functions of system level equipments. There are only two companies who are developing similar technology now in China. Both equipment manufactures and carriers did not understand the importance of this new technology. Using this kind of system level transceiver, telecom carriers can easily add new functions to their network without changing network topology or replacing equipments. He believes the Finisar Broadway deal will help spread this new transceiver concept greatly.

Broadway has developed a pluggable transceiver that incorporates an EPON ONU in an SFP and enables switches, routers and other customer premises equipment (CPE) to connect directly to PON networks. This "System on a Transceiver" approach offers particular advantages in the case of PON networks that are deployed for broadband services to multi-dwelling units, businesses and for wireless backhaul.  Broadway has also developed a "Smart SFP" with built-in remote management functionality designed to enable telecom carriers to monitor and diagnose the fiber links connecting customer sites, and reduce operating costs in the process.
