The tri-networks integration has started in China and FTTX networks are being deployed rapidly throughout China. The communication industry has increasing demand for high bandwidth and competitive pricing of optical devices. How do you win in this market? By offering optimal solutions at the most effective cost.
Nanotech is a UK IC supplier. Nanotech is a global supplier to the fiber optic communication industry providing high performance Analog and Mixed-Signal ICs in low cost CMOS. At CIOE this year, we are pleased to interview Nanotech’s Global Sales VP, David Khalifa, to understand the strategy and progress of Nanotech in the Chinese market.
In the first half year of 2010, total shipment of 10 million ICs
The main markets served by Nanotech are FTTH in Telecoms and Plastic Optical Fiber (POF). Nanotech shipped a total of 30 million ICs by mid 2010, less than 6 months after reaching the 20 million milestone. In optical communication applications below 10 Gbps, Nanotech already has up to 60% market share for some CMOS ICs, and is the fastest growing IC company in the fiber optic communication field.
Nanotech currently supplies complete CMOS IC solutions from 155 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps which are used in BPON, EPON, GPON as well as standard telecom and datacom applications. The advantages of Nanotech ICs: lowest power consumption and highest sensitivity at low cost. This makes Nanotech solutions the best choice for Customers in the market.
The unique advantages of Nanotech’s products:
David commented that the current trend in technology development for the communication industry is towards highly integrated solutions. Nanotech’s advantage is the ability to develop high speed ICs with all features integrated in low cost CMOS process to the highest Quality assurance. Nanotech has always been committed to supplying the most competitive Optical ICs to its customers.
Today, David introduced two new products to us: the NT25L51, 2.5 Gbps Transimpedance Amplifier and the NT24L55, 1.25 Gbps Transimpedance Amplifier.
The NT25L51 (TIA) can achieve typical sensitivities better than -34 dBm at a Bit Error Rate (BER) of 10-10 with an APD photodiode whilst consuming less than 20 mA typical supply current. This makes the NT25L51 ideally suited for GPON applications that require APD levels of performance coupled with low power consumption. The NT25L51 has data polarity invert function and photodiode current mirror that is selectable to sink or source output type.
The NT24L55 is used in GEPON applications. The NT24L55 has the lowest power consumption and provides sensitivities better than -32 dBm at a Bit Error Rate (BER) of 10-12 (1 dB better than current TIAs in the market) and consumes only 30 mA supply current. Typical bandwidth is 1GHz and the IC supports a large range of Photodiodes, offering customers great flexibility in terms of optical assembly.
Nanotech can supply products and services to global customers. David said Nanotech offers the best solutions, competitive prices, excellent quality and sales & applications support and already has a large customer base. In the Chinese market, Nanotech’s distributors are New Keen and Comtech.
