Idea Cellular, the country's fourth largest mobile phone company by subscribers, Friday said that it had upgraded its fibre network using gear supplied by China's Huawei. Idea said it had deployed the country's first 100G DWDM network from Huawei.

Idea Cellular will be able to flow more data at faster speeds on this upgraded network which will be beneficial for its data customers on 2G and 3G, leading to better user experience, the company said. This is the second phase of network upgradation for Idea Cellular that had put in place the first phase of a countrywide DWDM network in its optical fibre backbone in 2011.

The network is future-proof intelligent network, which provides switching at right level for high speed traffic. As the technology is service agnostic, so the network is compatible with traditional data traffic and future-oriented high speed data traffic.
