Vietnam's Viettel Hi-Tech Industries today announced the commercialization of 5G Open RAN radio stations, the world's first 5G Open RAN device using Qualcomm chipsets, developed by Viettel and Qualcomm, vneconomy.com reported on November 13th. From early 2025, Viettel plans to deploy more than 300 5G Open RAN stations in multiple provinces and cities in Vietnam, with plans for large-scale expansion in international markets.

The first deployed broadcast stations have already demonstrated the benefits of Open RAN technology, with network quality reaching a level comparable to that of traditional 5G systems, while at the same time being more cost-optimized. Viettel High Tech has completed a complete portfolio of 5G solutions, from the core network to the radio modules, and can offer a complete solution to customers deploying dedicated or public networks.

The head of GSMA Asia Pacific said that Open RAN provides the mobile industry with the opportunity to accelerate network innovation and enhance competitiveness. The Director General of the Department of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Information and Communications emphasized that OpenRAN helps increase network flexibility and reduce dependence on single-vendor ecosystems, in line with the Vietnamese government's policy on the sovereignty and resilience of telecommunication networks.

The project, implemented by more than 500 top engineers from several countries and regions, combines a wide range of technologies such as radio, signal processing, and power optimization. It will not only be deployed on a large scale in Vietnam, but will also be made available to international customers.
