Smartoptics’ open line system increases bandwidth for First Colo’s DCI solution

2019-05-25    Cfol

Oslo, Norway – 23 May 2019 – First Colo GmbH chooses Smartoptics’ plug and play data center interconnect (DCI) solution to connect their data centers and help meet the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth. The new solution is based on Smartoptics’ flexible DCP-M open line system for smart, flexible 100G DWDM connectivity.

First Colo offers data center and managed services to companies across Germany and central Europe. While upgrading the server and routing infrastructure, First Colo took the opportunity to ramp up its DCI capacity to make sure the company could continue to offer secure and reliable services to its current and future customers. Priorities for the solution were a high-capacity and dependable connection between the company’s two high-availability datacenters in the Frankfurt area.

By combining sleek form factor PAM4 transceivers embedded directly in Juniper Networks switches with Smartoptics’ flexible DCP-M open line system, First Colo gets a highly-automated, low cost 100G DWDM solution that fits their needs.

The solution was suggested by service integrator Xantaro, while they were upgrading the data center infrastructure with new high-capacity Juniper Networks switches and routers to support 100G traffic.

Jerome Evans, CEO, First Colo, comments: “There is no comparable alternative to the Smartoptics solution on the market today. It will set us up for 100G connectivity today and is also ready to support the 400ZR connectivity of the future. We feel that we got more than an upgrade to our DCI; we got a blueprint for datacenter interconnectivity that we can use again and again in the future.”

Smartoptics’ open line system simplifies 100G networking and builds capacity without adding unnecessary cost or hardware. It also removes the complexity and cost barriers of chassis based DWDM to fit the needs and scale of enterprise DCI.

“Our new DCP-M family of products is designed to meet the needs for flexible, cost-efficient data connectivity for DCI and Metro applications. We’re very happy that First Colo trusts our open optical networking solution to connect their data centers. It proves that we are on the right track developing products that really meet the needs for high-speed data connectivity in demanding environments,” says Magnus Grenfeldt, CEO of Smartoptics.
