China's Internet of Things Connections Expected to Surpass 3 Billion This Year

2024-11-04    Carol

At the 2024 World Internet of Things Conference held on November 3, the world's first White Paper on the World Wide Web Digital Economy was released, and data showed that the number of IoT connections in China is expected to exceed 3 billion this year.

The Internet of Things is an infrastructure that uses sensing technology and network communication technology as the main means to realize the ubiquitous connection of people, machines and things, and to provide services such as information sensing, information transmission and information processing. Data show that as of the end of July 2024, the total number of mobile communication base stations nationwide reached 11.93 million, forming a differentiated access capacity for the application needs of different industries. By the end of August 2024, the number of IoT terminal users reached 2.565 billion.

He Xuming, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World IoT Congress: China has taken the first place in the world in terms of IoT infrastructure and digital economy innovation and development, and this year, the number of 5G base stations built to carry IoT is expected to exceed 4.3 million, and the number of IoT connections is expected to exceed 3 billion.

China is the first country in the world's major economies to realize the superman of things. It has built the world's largest, most extensive and high-performance network infrastructure. Data show that the annual output value of China's digital economy is expected to exceed 70 trillion yuan, with a growth rate of more than 20%, and nearly one million enterprises have the conditions for an advanced digital economy.

By 2025, more than 30 new national standards and industry standards for IoT will be formulated.

Standardization is the cornerstone of the development of the Internet of Things industry, the reporter was informed at the 2024 World Internet of Things Conference that China is accelerating the improvement of the Internet of Things standard system, and by 2025, China's newly formulated national standards and industry standards in the field of Internet of Things will exceed 30.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Standardization Administration recently issued the Internet of Things standard system construction guidelines (2024 version)proposed that by 2025, the new development of national standards in the field of Internet of Things and industry standards more than 30, participate in the development of international standards more than 10, leading to the high-quality development of the Internet of Things industry, accelerate the formation of the standard system.

Winku, chairman of the China Communications Standards Association: we need to strengthen the standardization of the Internet of Things, and form a replicable and scalable experience. To improve the standards of IOT, we should actively participate in international standardization organizations and promote China's IOT standards to the world.

Experts said that due to the many standardization organizations of IOT, the responsibilities are not clear enough, and it is difficult to form development synergy among various standard organizations. At the same time, the rapid development of Internet of Things technology, new technologies continue to emerge. This requires that the standardization work must keep up with the development trend of technology and adjust and update the standard system in a timely manner.

He Qiang, Secretary General of the World Internet of Things Conference, said that the international standards organization should start from the standard aspect to reach an international convention under the framework of the United Nations to formulate an international convention on the digital economy of the Internet of Things, to protect the interests of all countries and the privacy of the public life.

Global IoT Connections Expected to Exceed 25 Billion This Year

In recent years, countries around the world have attached great importance to the development of the IoT industry, and governments have introduced policies to promote the research and development and application of IoT technology. Data from the World Wide Web of Things Digital Economy White Paper released at the 2024 World Internet of Things Conference shows that the number of global IoT connections is expected to exceed 25 billion this year.

Nearly 100 countries and regions around the world have set up more than 400,000 institutions, research institutes and social organizations for the IoT digital economy, and more than 1 million industrial application platforms and mass life service systems. The investment in IoT digital economy infrastructure occupies more than 60% of the total global investment, and it is expected that by 2030 the global output value of the advanced digital economy of Everything Smart is expected to exceed 50 trillion dollars.

He Xuming: The world's digital economy driven by IoT smart technologies is growing at a high speed with a volume of 20% per year, and the number of global IoT connections has grown by 23% this year and is expected to exceed 25 billion.
